Scenes from a Winter Yard

We got about a foot of snow yesterday between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Just enough to really gum up the works out on the streets. Lots of people helping each other extract personal vehicles that weren't up to the task. Lots of shoveling and snow-blowing going on at this moment, and lots of plowing out on the streets, too, of course.

In my yard it's pretty quiet among the occupants, the snow-plastered owl...

The fertile fronds of the ostrich ferns cast shadows as they wait for spring:
